Sooner or later every Facebook shop thinks about its own website. A website gives you a home that no algorithm change can take away, a place to send ad traffic, and a catalogue customers can browse at their own pace.
The first question is usually: WordPress or a custom-built site? We build both, so here is an honest comparison.
WordPress with WooCommerce
WordPress runs a large part of the web, and WooCommerce turns it into a store.
Good for:
- Shops that want to launch quickly with a ready, good-looking design.
- Owners who want to add products, change prices and edit pages themselves.
- Catalogues of a few products up to a few thousand.
Watch out for:
- Plugins. Every feature is a plugin, and too many plugins make the site slow and harder to update. Pick a few good ones.
- Updates. WordPress, the theme and plugins need regular updates to stay secure.
- Speed. A cheap host plus a heavy theme gives a slow site — and slow sites lose mobile customers. A caching plugin and a lightweight theme make a big difference.
A custom Laravel website
Laravel is a framework for building web applications from scratch, exactly to your needs.
Good for:
- Businesses with a special order flow — custom products, bookings, wholesale prices, or deep links to your own systems.
- Shops that have outgrown WordPress and keep fighting plugin conflicts.
- When speed and security matter most: a custom site loads only what it needs.
Watch out for:
- Cost and time. A custom site takes longer to build than installing a theme.
- Changes need a developer for anything beyond the admin panel you were given.
A simple way to decide
Ask yourself three questions:
- Does a normal shop flow fit my business? (Browse, cart, checkout.) If yes, WordPress is usually enough.
- Do I need to change my site often by myself? WordPress makes that easy.
- Do I have a special process that no plugin does well? That is when a custom Laravel site pays off.
Whatever you choose
- Mobile first. Most of your customers will visit on a phone. Check every page on a phone before launch.
- Make ordering easy. Cash on delivery, a short checkout form, and a WhatsApp button for customers who prefer to ask first.
- Fast pages. Compress images and avoid giant sliders on the home page.
- Your own domain and email. They make the shop look trustworthy.
